How to descale your KiddoKook Pro water tank

Keeping your KiddoKook Pro clean helps it run smoothly and ensures your baby’s food stays fresh. If you notice a white or chalky film inside the water tank, don’t worry, it’s just limescale, a harmless residue from Australia’s naturally hard water. It’s completely safe and very common in appliances like kettles and coffee machines.

What’s Limescale?

Limescale forms when water rich in minerals like calcium and magnesium is heated, leaving behind a fine residue. It might look concerning, but it’s not mould and won’t affect performance or safety. A quick descale keeps your tank sparkling clean and your appliance running at its best.

Why Descale?

Regular descaling helps your KiddoKook Pro work efficiently and stay fresh by removing mineral buildup. It keeps water heating evenly and prevents odours or staining. Our wide water tank design makes it simple to access, clean, and maintain, so keeping it in top condition only takes a few minutes.

How to Descale

  1. Step 1 – Prepare the Descaling Solution
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water (50/50) and pour the solution into the water tank. I use Cornwell's White Vinegar.

  2. Step 2 – Run a Sterilisation Cycle
Run a “Sterilise” cycle and reduce the timer from 10 minutes to 5 minutes. Place the empty mixing bowl in the machine to catch the steam.

  3. Step 3 – Let It Sit
After the cycle finishes, let the solution sit in the tank for about 20 minutes. This will loosen and dissolve any limescale buildup.

  4. Step 4 – Rinse & Wipe
Empty the tank and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Wipe the inside with a soft sponge or cloth — no scrubbing required.

  5. Step 5 (optional) – Extra Fresh Rinse
To remove any lingering vinegar smell, run one sterilisation cycle using only clean water in the tank.

✅ Cleaning Habits for Everyday Use

  • Empty leftover water after each cooking session.
  • Descale once or twice a month to keep your appliance in top condition.

💬 Common Question: “Is That Mould?”

Many parents contact us worried they’ve found mould inside their tank. In almost every case, it’s actually limescale from hard water, not mould. The residue can appear white, off-white, or slightly brownish, but it’s completely harmless and easy to remove with the descaling steps above.
