Smarter prep. Less waste. Happier mealtimes.

Food Storage

Storing baby food well is one of those things you only learn after a few months of doing it badly. Random ice cube trays. Half-empty pots in the fridge. The storage range we ended up reaching for daily, in our own kitchen in Brisbane, from 4-month purées through to toddler lunchboxes. Stackable, leakproof, dishwasher-safe. BPA-free silicone and borosilicate glass.

This collection is best suited to parents prepping for the first solids stage (around 4 to 6 months) through to active toddlers who need their snacks portioned, frozen, and grab-ready. If you're batch-cooking on Sundays, sending lunchboxes to daycare, or just trying to stop the avocado from turning brown by Wednesday, you're in the right spot.

Freeze nine portions. Skip days of stress.

Cook on Sunday, feed all week. Our PureePops Tray holds nine 75ml portions of homemade purees. The right size for a 6-month-old, two cubes for a 12-month-old. Pop them out, drop them in a labelled jar, defrost on demand. Three batches gets you through a fortnight. One Sunday afternoon, fewer dinner-time meltdowns.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ones that come up most often when parents are getting started with storage.

How long can I store homemade baby food in the freezer

Most homemade purées freeze well for up to three months in airtight, portioned containers. Single-ingredient fruit and vegetable purées (pumpkin, sweet potato, apple, pear) last the longest. Meat-based purées are best used within one to two months. Always label the date you froze it. A chalk pen on the side of a silicone tray makes this easy.

Do I actually need all four of these pieces?

Honestly, no. Most parents start with the PureePops Tray alone and add the others over time. Jars come next for parents who want a glass option for fridge servings, usually a month or two in. The Chill'n'Chew Tray starts pulling its weight around the teething window (4 to 6 months for early teethers). Chalk pens are a small extra that makes labelling easier but is not essential. If you are starting from scratch and just want one piece, the PureePops Tray is where to begin.

What's the safest way to defrost frozen baby food?

The safest method is to transfer the portion from freezer to fridge the night before and let it thaw slowly overnight. If you need it faster, use the defrost function on the KiddoKook Pro or place the sealed portion in a bowl of warm water. Never defrost baby food at room temperature, and never refreeze food that's already been thawed.

Are silicone freezer trays safe for baby food?

Yes, food-grade silicone is one of the safest materials for storing baby food. It's BPA-free, doesn't leach chemicals at freezer or oven temperatures, and is flexible enough to pop portions out cleanly. All Kiddo Kitchen silicone trays meet Australian food-safety standards and are dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning.

Can I store baby food in glass jars in the freezer?

Glass jars can be used for freezing baby food, but with care. Borosilicate glass (like our MiniMunch jars) handles thermal shock well, but you should still leave space at the top for expansion, avoid filling with hot food, and thaw gradually in the fridge rather than going straight from freezer to microwave.

How much food should I store per portion?

For a 4 to 6 month old, start with 30 to 60ml (1 to 2 tablespoons) per portion. By 6 to 9 months, most babies are eating 60 to 120ml per meal. From 9 to 12 months, portions usually grow to 120 to 180ml. Our PureePops Tray portions are designed at 75ml, perfect for the 6+ month sweet spot, with room to combine two cubes for older babies.

Do I need to sterilise storage containers before use?

For babies under 6 months, yes. Sterilise storage containers before first use and after each wash. From 6 months onward, hot soapy water or a dishwasher cycle is usually enough. The KiddoKook Pro has a built-in sterilising function that handles silicone trays and small containers easily.
